People go to adult day care centers for various reasons. Some people go there so that their all day requirements are looked after and assisted, whereas some go there to give a break to their regular caregivers.
The adult care homes are funded and regulated by the state laws. They have provisions for medical facilities, plus they provide the feel of safety and security to the residents, especially to the ill people like Alzheimer’s and Dementia patients. As per NADSA (National Adult Day Service Association), adult day care facilities should have a plan of programs accommodating social, physical, and emotional support services in it.
The Adult Day Care Home Program (ACHP) licenses and governs operations of adult day care centers and homes, and their administrative rules. ACHP, in collaboration with community groups also provides quality training to operators and caregivers. The aim of this program is-
a) to provide the care recipients with secure, safe, caring, and homely atmosphere.
b) to ensure that the resident’s dignity and rights are respected.
c) to enable public to have an access to all necessary information for deciding an appropriate facility according to their need.
Along with the daily routine activities, the adult day care centers also provide emotional and health related counseling, transportation from home to the facility and back, recreational and rehabilitation programs, therapeutic exercises, and all type of assistance which is required by the residents.
As per the rules or laws, any organization or society which is interested in providing adult care facility-
1. Must have enough resources (financial and ground both) to meet with the proposed standards.
2. The building, staff, and caregivers must comply with all applicable rules, given by ACHP.
3. Must have a permit or license to run such services.
Any applicant and his/her facility is open for reviews by public. These comments and reviews will be considered seriously in the process of license allotment.
While one is on a look out for an adult day care center, he/she must consider a few things in advance, like-
- The safety and hygiene standards of the facility
- The cost for the service.
- Qualification and credentials of the caregivers.
- Quality of meals.
- What all activities are available?
- Do they have arrangements to handle emergencies?
- Is the atmosphere friendly?
- What is the ratio of staff and residents?
- Do they have special programs for Alzheimer’s patients?
You should go for a day care center which satisfies your specific needs and provides you with a comfortable and cheerful stay. |
