Senior Housing

When your retirement time starts approaching you and you have to decide place and life style for your future years, it is ideal time to go through various options available and tick out the one which is best suited to you.  Before determining any decision, it would be better if you do some research and think what kind of living arrangements you would like to have and how have you planned to support those arrangement financially.

When you go through yellow pages or serf the net, you will come across with a number of communities and colonies which are specially meant for senior people. These senior housing colonies or communities have all possible options available which a senior may require. They can provide you with independent living/ assisted living/ nursing care and various such options.

Now let us discuss the types of housings available and their related factors in detail. This will surely help you out in making a decision.

Independent Living

This option is preferred by most seniors who can survive on their own and want to keep their independence intact. This type of housing is also known as Retirement Communities. It provides all facilities, right from maintenances, to educational to recreational activities to social activities, without disturbing the life style and the personal independence of the residents. These communities generally have a house keeping cell which provides facilities like laundry, meals, transport, and other such services.

Assisted Living

This housing type is most suitable to those who need some assistance in doing their daily works. It provides personal assistance along with residential housing. One thing should be understood that this extra assistance is not a skilled nursing care. This option gives you all the facilities of independent living plus added facility of personal assistance service. This personal caregiver will assist you in your daily routine like bathing, dressing, eating etc. plus it will accompany you to your doctor or other appointments etc.

Nursing Homes

Seniors, suffering from terminal illness or other physical problems which need to be monitored regularly by professionals, may go for this option. Nursing homes provide round the clock nursing care to such people. They have special facilities for patients of Alzheimer’s or people having dementia disorders etc.

CCRC
Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC) has all the above options available with it. One must have a look at them.
Once you have decided the type of housing for yourself, you must consider other factors related to it like what is the cost of the property and for the services that the community provides.  There are some apartments which are given at subsidized rates to the seniors who can not pay a huge sum but still like to live a respectable and comfortable life.
If you have planned your future life and your finances properly, there is no stopping for you to live a cheerful and comfortable life as you are living now.
